HEADLINE: BUDGET EARMARKS £260 MILLION FOR TRAINING - But how can the new cash work hardest to boost job security and trading prospects on the High Street this year?

Confirmed readership for this story so far: 14,000

Abstract: Chancellor Alistair Darling just earmarked more than £260 million for training and subsidies across business sectors deemed to have “strong future demand”. For retailers, the fresh cash injection could provide a much needed boost to the training and development programmes critical for success on the High Street during what are expected to be the toughest times in retail in over 50 years.

At a time when over 80 percent of commentators in the retailing sector claim that sales figures could be boosted if staff on the shop floor had more access to better training, calls for Government backed 'cash-back' deals for firms that spend money on training are amongst the fist suggestions coming to the surface as news of the £260 million commitment spreads, but how do you think Darling should divvy up the cash?
